A Nation Remembers: Overview of 65th Anniversary Events

Aloha from Hawaii,

65 years ago, on December 7, 1941, the face of America was forever changed as 2,390 brave men and women were killed when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, but many more lived to fight on, defend freedom and preserve democracy.

In honor of these brave Americans, the last official survivors’ reunion is being hosted in Pearl Harbor, December 3-7, 2006. Over 3,000 Pearl Harbor survivors (veterans, civilians and their families) have journeyed to Hawaii for this momentous occasion, but there are many more survivors, friends, family and historians who are unable to join them.

The theme of this year’s events is “A Nation Remembers.”

In an effort to help all Americans remember the significance and gravity of December 7th 1941, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Project is chronicling select events here on our site.

We’re featuring new survivors stories recorded at the Ala Moana hotel, the site of Survivors Summit, photo galleries from events like the Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund's gala where all the best dressed in Hawaii were on Tuesday, December 5, interviews on the real meaning of the 65th, and updates from the Pearl Harbor 65th Anniversary Symposium.

We hope you enjoy the sounds and sights of this momentous occasion and come back daily to enjoy the weeklong festivities.

Mahalo,

Your Pearl Harbor Survivors Project Team
